Expect Street Closures, Delays During Algonquin Founders' Days

Drivers should expect some traffic back ups and delays as Algonquin Founders' Days gets underway this week in downtown Algonquin.

"Please be aware that all traffic through Algonquin will be delayed because of the Founders’ Days Festivities. When possible, drivers should seek alternate routes during this festival," according to an Algonquin Police Department press release. "Please park only in designated areas and do not block any drives or access roads."

Parade Detours

On Saturday, Routes 31 and 62 will be closed and traffic will be diverted starting at 10 a.m. for the Algonquin Founders' Day parade, according to an Algonquin Police Department press release.

The parade will get underway at 11 a.m., starting at Eastgate Drive and Route 62, and will travel west on Route 62 over the Fox River before traveling south on Route 31. The parade will end at Madison Street.

Route 31 will also be closed at Edgewood Drive during the parade and traffic will be diverted onto a detour route. During the parade, traffic will be allowed onto northbound Route 31 at LaFox River, Division or Jayne other for the residents that live in that subdivision.

Fireworks Detour

Harrison Street will be closed from Route 62 to Edward Street from 5 to 11 p.m. No parking of vehicles will be allowed within this section of North Harrison on the day of the fireworks.

"This street closure allows for the preparation of the fireworks display and assures the safe passage of pedestrians before, during and after the display," according to the police department press release.
