Bacteria Levels, Testing Procedures Could Leave Some Swimming in 'Filth'

Indian Trail Beach was closed for several days last summer due to elevated bacteria levels.

Since it takes two days to process results from water samples, “beachgoers maybe frolicking in filth” until a beach is officially closed due to elevated e.Coli levels, according to the Daily Herald.

And since the waters are typically only tested twice a month, swimmers could be frolicking in that filth for days, according to the article.

Indian Trail Beach in Lake in the Hills was closed for 10 days over the course of 2012 and there were three days where the beach reached or exceeded maximum testing levels, according to the Daily Herald.
