Trails Swim Team Completes 44th Season

Trails Swim Team, a non-profit summer swim program based in Algonquin, Illinois, completed it’s 44th season finishing third in the NCISC B Conference Meet. At the Conference Meet, Trails had three Individual Conference Champions (Mary Jost - 25 Breast, 8&U Girls; Grace Kozlowski - 100 Free, 9/10 Girls; Cameron Wilson - 50 Breast, 11/12 Boys) and 2 Conference Champion Relays (13/14 200 Free Relay - Rachel Jost, Kim Spurny, Caitlin Pieroni, Alex Peterson; 15&U 200 Medley Relay - Elizabeth Pieroni, Jessica Pflanz, Jenny Spurny, Jennifer Gomoll). Additionally, Grace Kozlowski set a new Trails Record for Girls 9/10 100 Free with a time of 1:12.96, breaking the record of 1:15.08 set by Caragh Considine in 2005.

Trails finished (5-2) in conference dual meets.

Trails hosted the 19th Annual Trails Invitational on June 21, 2014. Over 560 swimmers, representing 11 teams, were in attendance. Over the years, the Trails Invitational has truly become a community event as the Lion's Club, AAYO, & Jimmy John's - all Algonquin organizations - help make it a successful event both in and out of the pool. In an effort to give back to the community, every year Trails organizes a food drive in conjunction with the Invitational to benefit the Algonquin/LITH Food Pantry. The food drive typically raises 350 lbs. ($650) of non-perishable food items.

Trails roots are in the Fox Trails Country Club (Swim & Tennis Club) originally founded in 1963. Trails Swim Team was formed in 1970 to foster not only a love of swimming, as it has the potential to be a life-long sport, but to teach important values such as self-discipline, respecting authority, and acting ethically in the face of competition.

Trails Swim Team, a 501(c)(3) organization open to all children ages 5-18, is administrated by a board of 15 parent volunteers, meeting once a month to facilitate team decisions. The entire team contributes during the season, supplying all manpower necessary to run the meets, including officials, timers, bullpen, announcers, etc. The only paid positions are coaches, so the team couldn't function without the parent volunteers. As a result, the swim team is an amazing community that transcends any one season, as everyone has to come together in order make the team successful year after year.
