An MCC Board Meeting... With a Twist

On April 25th at 6:30 PM, the McHenry County College (MCC) Board of Trustees will hold a contentious lame duck session.

On April 25th at 6:30 PM, the McHenry County College (MCC) Board of Trustees will hold a lame duck session.  The primary reason for this session is to approve a contract extension for current president Mrs. Vicky Smith.  After the April 9th consolidated election, three current sitting trustees were ousted from office.  Now, they want to give a golden parachute to Smith as they walk out the door.

Cronyism at its finest.

The new board members have questions for Smith before deciding whether she should or should not be retained.  To be clear, the new board could retain her services.  However, this s a decision for the new board we the voters of McHenry County have elected… on not a lame duck board.

Mrs. Smith’s current annual salary is reported to be $195,000 a year.  With this kind of a salary doesn’t the newly elected board deserve a chance to weigh in on this decision?  What is our system of government coming to when a group of defeated incumbents can undermine the system in such a way that it could have the potential to negatively impact the next two years of the MCC Board?

The lame duck board should simply pass this decision onto the new board that we elected to handle this decision.  You can add your voice to this by attending the meeting this Wednesday at 6:30PM.
