Why did you decide to become a Big Brother?

“About three years ago I decided to get involved with Big Brothers Big Sisters. The driving factor for me was to want to give back. I was raised by my single mom and while we didn't have a lot, I was lucky enough to have amazing mentors throughout my life; People who took the time to care and nurture me and to let me know that our situation was not hopeless but hopeful. Now it's my turn to give this gift back, to help someone build their foundation for the future.”

“That is what Big Brothers Big Sisters is all about to me, Hopeful.”

What do you and your like little do together?

“Go karting and going out to eat!  Morke’s chocolate making day was a big hit too.”

How or has this experience changed your life?

“It's a two way mentorship program for sure. I find when we are talking I'm learning things about me that I can use as tools to be a better man and a better dad. My Little is really a great kid!”

What kind of changes if any have you seen in your little?

“I've seen my Little really start to become more open with me. He has also grown more confident in himself. It makes me smile because I couldn't get a word out of him the first couple of months, now as soon as he gets in the car he just talks about so much of what's going on.”

Why do you think other MEN should volunteer to become a Big Brother?

“There are so many great guys out there that could really give an amazing gift to young kids in the program. I haven't met a Big in the program who hasn't said that they get just as much out of it. It's an amazing thing to know that you are shaping, impacting, and in some cases saving the future of young kids in our community!”
