Local Olympian to Lead Charity Fun Run

Fellowship Housing's 5K Fun Run/Walk Event Meet and Run with 2012 Olympian Evan Jager September 21, 2013 South Barrington Arboretum Registration Now Open! www.signmeup.com/91424

Evan Jager, 2012 Olympian and Algonquin native, will lead the pack at Fellowship Housing’s 5k Fun Run on Saturday, September 21, 2013 at the Arboretum of South Barrington at 7:30am. Proceeds from the event will go towards Fellowship Housing’s program for homeless and at-risk single mothers and their children.

Participants at the 5k Fun Run will have the opportunity to learn more about what homelessness looks like in the Northwest Suburbs and join Fellowship Housing in providing hope to single mothers in crisis. “Homelessness is an issue that impacts children just as much as it impacts adults. This is an epidemic that is happening right here in Northern Illinois. Nearly 6,000 families with children are homeless in our state,” shared Fellowship Housing’s Program Director, Lisa Bohn. “With Evan joining this event we anticipate awareness of this issue to increase, as well as, awareness of the work Fellowship Housing does in our community.”

Evan Jager burst onto the track and field scene in the men’s steeplechase in 2012 when he set the American record at 8:06.81 in just his fifth time racing the event. He made another international team at the London Olympic Games after qualifying for Team USA for the World Outdoor Championships in 2009 and the World Junior Championships in 2008. With his time previously being split between 1,500m and 5,000m, Jager made his debut in the steeplechase earlier in 2012 and still took the Olympic Trials title after only a handful of career races.
