Reading is So Delicious! The Algonquin Area Public Library Summer Reading Program begins June 2

Children who participate in summer reading programs score higher on tests and are better prepared for school in the fall.

Reading is So DELICIOUS is an eight-week reading program running from June 2 through July 30 which is designed to encourage the reading and the enjoyment of books.  Summer reading programs are an important way to keep children reading during summer vacation. A Dominican University study shows that students who participate in a summer reading program score higher on standardized tests and are better prepared for school in the fall, by maintaining or improving their reading skills!

The Summer Reading Kick-off begins on Saturday June 2.  Children, teens and adult cardholders from the Algonquin Area Public Library District are encouraged to register for Reading is So Delicious and take part in the Mini-Taste of Algonquin & Lake in the Hills. The Mini-Taste will only be available at the Main Library on Harnish Drive from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm to Algonquin Library Cardholders only who register for summer reading.   The Wonderful Wacky Juggler, Andy Head, will also be performing at 11:00 am to add to the festivities!

In keeping with the summer reading theme, several local food establishments agreed to participate in our Mini-Taste of Algonquin & Lake in the Hills and give away a small sample off their menus. We are grateful to Café Firefly, Morkes Chocolates and Jamba Juice of Algonquin;  Moretti’s Ristorante & Pizzaria and Einstein Bros Bagels of Lake in the Hills for there generous donations.
