College Prep at the Algonquin Area Public Library

The Algonquin Area Public Library District is helping students prepare for college with some upcoming programs. 

On Tuesday, September 25 at 7 pm, join the Library for ACT or SAT: What Everyone Should Know.   Michael Wirth, from Tutor Doctor, will explain the difference between the ACT and SAT tests, why students should choose one test or the other and explains test details.  This program is open to students in grades 9-12 and parents.

On Wednesday, October 3 at 7 pm, the Library will be hosting a College Application Essay Workshop.  Adrienne Brazil, from Kaplan Test Prep and Admissions, will show students and parents what college admissions offices want to see in an essay.  The workshop will examine topics students will encounter, cover the four steps to writing a winning essay and critique sample admission essays.

Can’t make it to a program?  The Algonquin Area Public Library has electronic resource LearningExpress Library to assist.   This electronic resource has all the tips and tools needed for a successful college admission, and is available online at www.aapld.org 24 hours a day, seven days a week.  LearningExpress Library’s College Preparation Learning Center includes ACT and SAT test preparation, college admissions preparation and college placement preparation.

The Library also has books on shelf for strategies, practice and review for ACT and SAT tests, strategy and success college admission information, and books about financing college.   Ask a librarian at the Adult Services Desk for help finding the topic and book you are interested in.
