Sunday, April 7: 1,001 Books Before Kindergarten

Ongoing Program

1,001 Books Before Kindergarten is a reading program for families with children birth through age five.  Parents will be able to register their child/children for the program with their Algonquin Area Public Library Card at the Youth Services Desk.  At registration, information will be given about the program and the Library, the children’s collection and recommended reads, early literacy skill and early literacy practices, and a book log for the first 100 titles recorded in 1,001 Books Before Kindergarten.  After each set of 100 books are read and logged; Parents and children can return to the Youth Services Desk, pick-up a prize and pages for the next 100 books, and receive additional information about upcoming programs at the Library. When 1,001 books are reached, your child will get a graduation ceremony, a book and their picture on our wall of stars.

Monday, April 8: Cover to Cover Youth Book Club

7:00 pm – 8:00 pm

We will discuss The Sisters Grimm: The Fairy Tale Detectives by Michael Buckley. Paperback copies will be available at the Youth Services Desk. This beginning book club is for students in grades 3-5. Registration is required to attend. Please register online at www.aapld.org or in the Library.

 

Tuesday, April 9: Animangiacs: Anime Review and Discussion Group

6:30 pm – 8:00 pm

Fans of anime and manga are invited to join our discussion group. We watch shows, share favorites and geek out on anime and popular comic culture. Fans that are out of high school can drop in anytime. No registration is required to attend. This discussion group meets at the Eastgate Branch located at 115 Eastgate Drive, Algonquin, Illinois 60102.

 

Wednesday, April 10: Introduction to Word

7:00 pm – 8:30 pm

A beginner's introduction to basic functions in Word 2010. Mouse experience required. Register for computer classes online at www.aapld.org or call 847-458-6060 ext. 143.

 

Thursday, April 11: Teen Anime Club

3:30 pm – 5:00 pm

Teen fans of Anime and Manga are invited to join us for a highly active discussion group. Games, activities and trivia are all anime-related. This group is open to teens in grades 9-12. No registration is required to attend.

 

Friday, April 12: Baby Storytime

10:00 am – 10:30 am and 1:00 pm – 1:30 pm

Babies 23 months and younger and their parent/caregiver are invited to join us for stories, fingerplays, songs, and play time. This is a drop-in program, no registration required.

 

Saturday, April 13: Bookaneers – Mysterious Thelonious

2:00 pm – 3:00 pm

Mysterious Thelonious by Chris Raschka. Join us as we read and discuss this book about legendary jazz musician Thelonious Monk. We’ll listen to some jazz as we create some groovy art inspired by Monk’s music. This beginning book club is for students in grades K-2. Registration is required to attend.
