Grammy Winner Delfeayo Marsalis, Performs at Raue Center

Producer and jazz master and his octet will take on the music of Duke Ellington this Saturday night at the Raue Center for the Arts in Crystal Lake.

Grammy Award-winning producer and NEA Jazz Master Delfeayo Marsalis brings "Sweet Thunder"  to the Raue Center for the Arts in Crystal Lake. Marsalis and his dynamic jazz octet will perform a fresh take on the music of Duke Ellington at 8 p.m. Saturday, May 18, according to a Raue Center press release. "Marsalis will unite the worlds of music and drama, featuring a full stage set, clever props, costuming and monologues by native New Orleans thespian Kenneth Brown, Jr. (of HBO's hit series Treme)," the Raue release stated. It's First Friday: Stop by To See District 47 Artwork, Enjoy Live Music

Stop by the Dole Mansion and Lakeside Legacy Arts Park today from 5 to 8 p.m. to see artwork made by District 47 and Creative Artistry School of Fine Arts students.

Today is First Friday at Lakeside Legacy Foundation at the Historic Dole Mansion in Crystal Lake. The public is welcome to attend this free, family-friendly event from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Dole, 401 Country Club Rd., Crystal Lake. Tonight's event will feature art works made by District 47 students and students from Creative Artistry School of Fine Arts. The McHenry County Youth Orchestra and District 47 students will provide the live music for tonight's gathering. Richard Marx to Headline National Piano Conference at Raue Center

Second annual piano conference scheduled for June 27-30 draws young pianists from throughout the country.

The Raue Center for the Arts has announced Richard Marx will headline the 2nd Annual National Piano Conference in June. The conference runs from June 27 - 30, at the Raue Center, 26 N. Williams St., Crystal Lake. Marx will perform at 8 p.m. on June 29, according to Alexandra McMillin, marketing and development manager for the Raue. A songwriter, producer and performer, Marx has sold more than 30 million albums, scored 14 chart-topping singles and earned a Grammy for song of the year, McMillin said in a release. The Chicago native's chart-topping hits include “Hold on to the Nights,” “Don’t Mean Nothing,” “Satisfied” and “Right Here Waiting.” Marx achieved a seven-year string of triumphs that rivaled any in pop-rock music history. Ravinia Tickets Go on Sale This Week

See who's performing this summer at the North Shore's biggest music festival. Tickets go on sale at 5 a.m. April 25.

Student Art Exhibit This Week in Algonquin

The Algonquin Public Arts Commission is hosting the exhibit this Thursday, April 18 through Saturday, April 20.

The Algonquin Public Arts Commission will hold its second annual Student Art Exhibit at the William J. Ganek Municipal Center, 2200 Harnish Drive, on April 18 through 20. Approximately 35 pieces of artwork from local middle school students will be on display in a variety of different media, including painting, drawing, print, and metal. An opening reception with light refreshments will be held on Thursday, April 18, from 6 to 8 p.m., and the exhibit will continue to be on display Friday, April 19, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Saturday, April 20 from 9 a.m. to noon. Renown Guitarist Fareed Haque to Perform at Listening Room on Sunday

Tickets are still available for Sunday show featuring Haque, former guitarist for Sting.

Fareed Haque, regarded as one of the finest guitar virtuosos, will perform at the Listening Room on Sunday at Lakeside Legacy Arts Park/ Dole Mansion. Haque, who played with Sting, will perform with guest flutist Zachary Weiss from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, April 14, at the Listening Room, located in the lower level of the Lakeside Legacy Arts Park, 401 Country Club Rd., Crystal Lake. The concert, held in the Listening Room's intimate setting, showcases "Music from Brazil and Beyond." It is part of the 2nd Sunday Series at 'the Listening Room.' Haque also is scheduled to appear on May 12 - Mother's Day - for a concert of "Lullabies and Love" songs with vocalists Orna Oriana and Jill Sanderson.
