Woodstock Man Charged in Double Fatal Traffic Crash
Street racing cited as cause of crash that killed two Woodstock teens.
McHenry County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a Woodstock man in connection with a fatal traffic crash that killed two 16-year-old boys on July 1.
Dan L. Huber is charged with failure to report a traffic crash, a Class 1 felony and aggravated street racing, a Class 4 felony, according to a sheriff’s department release. His bond was set at $100,000.
The initial investigation revealed that a 2010 Hyundai Elantra was traveling westbound on David Road, in unincorporated Woodstock, when it left the roadway, the release stated. Alec J. Kaiser and Jacob S. Norys were killed in the single car accident.
During an in-depth investigation, the sheriff’s Accident Investigation Unit found evidence linking Huber to the crash.
Huber allegedly met Kaiser and Norys just before the crash then travelled to David Road and started a street race with the victims. The crash occurred during the race, although the two vehicles did not collide, the release stated.
Investigators said Huber left the scene of the accident without offering aid or calling 911.
Sheriff Keith Nygren reminded the public that street racing is an illegal activity that is highly dangerous to the participants as well as innocent members of the public, according to the release.
