Sheriff's Office Seeks information on Fatal Hit and Run

An Algonquin man was killed in a crash early Monday.

The McHenry County Sheriff's Office is seeking the public's help after a 22-year-old Algonquin man was killed in a hit and run crash on East Main Street near Cary early Monday.

John D. Fennessy, of 609 S. Hubbard Street, was pronounced dead at the scene by the McHenry County Coroner’s Office, according to a McHenry County Sheriff's Office press releae.

McHenry County Sheriff Keith Nygren said that Fennessy was walking at about 3:29 a.m. Oct. 1, in the 600 block of East Main Street, west of Newbold Road, in unincorporated Algonquin Township.

A car traveling eastbound on East Main Street struck Fennessy while he was walking in the roadway, and the car fled the scene, Nygren said.

A second vehicle then hit Fennessy, the sheriff's office told the Northwest Herald. The driver was not cited and called officials after the accident, according to the NW Herald.

The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office is seeking assistance with locating the offending driver/ vehicle, or anyone who may have witnessed the crash. The car has missing pieces to the headlight, Nygren said.

The Daily Herald reports the sheriff's office does not have description of the car

The traffic crash is under investigation by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Accident Investigation Unit. Anyone having information regarding the investigation is asked to call the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office at 815-338-2144, or Crime Stoppers at 800-762-STOP (7867).

Could you please get it right. It was in unincorporated Cary. And as his mother, why do you need to put out there that he was "drove over" by a second car. His sister and brother are trying to believe that he died instantly so that they can at least sleep at night. You could have rephrased it. This is extremely hard on all of us and I am praying that the person who did this gets caught but please have some sympathy to how you put things because there are family members who have to live with this the rest of there lives.

Thank you Mr; Sullivan and Ms. Pulio. We appreciate it so much. I would also like to send my prayers to the second driver and tell them that I do not blame them but actually thank them for stopping. I can only imagine how they feel and know I will always be grateful to them.
