Riverside Plaza Ad: Thumbs Up or Thumbs Down?
The Northwest Herald reports the ad is garnering complaints and I want to hear what residents think.
I noticed it while marching in the Algonquin Founders' Days parade at the end of last month. It was hard to miss.
A brand-new, shiny billboard appeared on the side of Algonquin's most famous building. No, I am not talking about historic Village Hall.
On the side of the nearly completed exterior of the infamous Riverside Plaza, there hangs a very large ad featuring a blonde woman with a plunging neckline that says "Let's talk about living here."
The Northwest Herald reported today that while the sign complies with village ordinance, it has been garnering complaints.
Russ Farnum, community development director for Algonquin, said in the article that although the village does not usually regulate the content of a sign, officials have followed up and have not found anything offensive.
So I was wondering, what do residents of Algonquin think about the sign? Do you find it offensive? Too big? Not big enough? Too sexy? The right type of ad for the property?

The smallest units theres they want 250k on up to 400k for?? What? So its safe to say it will sit there vacant for ever as in todays housing market anywhere around Mchenry county for 250k you could buy a 2000-2500 sf home on an acre or two for that or less than their cheapest unit! Not to mention who in the heck is going to rent retail space on the first floor? The traffic right there is the worst in the state no ones going to pull in there. What about when the building was up for over a year with no roof and windows? You telling me theres no water damage in there there going to have huge problems down the road. Was the inspector blind? Was there a payoff? Tyvek village has been an eye soar for years and still is. Next to the bybass which is actually goign to make the traffic worse its the biggest waste of time and money ever spent in Algonquin!

I don't find this offensive. Ill thought out? Probably! Great for fun one liners? Indeed! If this is how they have to sell this property, go for it! If I call that number, do we get to talk about other things too?

This is one of the strangest billboards I have ever seen. Whe I saw it, I wondered what the message was intended to be. The facial expression is semi-come-hither and semi-vacant, creepy stare. There is a plunging neckline under what looks like a business suit. jacket. Is this the real estate agent or a past prime lady of the night? Exactly what does she want to talk about?

So what? does anyone really find this offensive or controversial? back in 2007, there was a downtown lawyer lady who put up a billboard with a scantily clad woman (the lawyer herself) and a male model; the money line? "Life's Short. Get a Divorce"...and people did. THAT billboard was worth talking about.
In the midst of the O.D. (Obama depression), the way the real estate market is, i wouldn't be surprised to see the Riverside Plaza sellers up there by the billboard tapdancing and singing 24/7. Times are tough.

Too much sex appeal for an advertisement that is trying to sell places for people to live.

give it a break people .itch .itch .itch a few years back, after one beatiful and highly sucsessful condo project down the steet, aspen tried again and failed miserably. now we have a glimmer of hope of a finished product. let this guy do what he has to, to get r done! " they cost too much" ,' the sign is too high' "she looks wierd".....who cares, get it completed. btw, i hope the model is my neighbor! i grew up for 20 yrs living not only in the hood, but 40ft away @harrison&front st. ya, id like to see the area stay the same, but its a done deal. go forward. what scares me the most, while all of you were going by( staring at my new neighbor), you failed to notice..... absolutely NO work done, or workers present since last friday. went from 7 days/wk to nothing for the 6 days.

it's not any more offensive than the building itself!

That entire complex is offensive. It's an eyesore that doesn't belong on that corner. The zoning board must have been paid off. What other explanation could there be?

So much money to overlook the Shell station!! And that has got to be one of the most unwelcoming billboards I've ever seen. I'll be glad when it's done, so there is no more construction. I'd rather have Riverview there too!!
