Police Charge Wheeling Man in Lake Zurich McDonald’s Stabbing
Maxwell S. Younger, 21, was charged with three felony counts of aggravated battery.
Lake Zurich Police charged a 21-year-old Wheeling man with three felony counts of aggravated battery in the Dec. 5 stabbing of a North Barrington man in the Lake Zurich McDonald’s parking lot, according to Commander David Bradstreet.
Maxwell S. Younger, of 699 Cherrywood Dr. Wheeling, was charged with aggravated battery causing great bodily harm, aggravated battery in a public place and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. The charges are class 3 felonies and are punishable by two to five years in a state penitentiary. Younger's bond was set at $50,000. He is in custody of the Lake County Sheriff, said Bradstreet.
Younger invoked his 5th amendment rights and did not provide police with information regarding the incident, Bradstreet said.
The crime appears to be random. Bradstreet said they spoke to the 21-year-old victim who said he did not know the offender and the stabbing occurred after a confrontation in the parking lot.
Bradstreet said Younger has no prior police record. Police are still investigating the incident and are still interested in speaking to another person who may have been involved, Bradstreet said.

Checked out his Facebook, claims to be in the National Guard, and looks a bit gun obsessed. Seems like the victim is lucky he didnt get shot by this guy.

@INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY!-- You sound like this punks momma. If thats right, you FAILED him! Apparently you DO know him because you just verified his claim to be in the Guard, which will punish him worse than a civilian judge will. And I will not limit any of my comments EVER, as I enjoy the right to Freedom of Speech, right @This is America!! ? Freedom of Speech "is still the law."??? @INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY! You are the one who should be ashamed for your part in failing to get Maxwell the help he obviously needed. And now, its too late. Mortgage the house and get the best lawyer you can is all you can do know. <shaking my head in disgust>

Circumstances? Why did he have a knife on him that could be used? The victim was not armed? Why is a 21 year old driving around with a weapon? There are many unanswered questions, and very few facts have been released. His family and The National Guard has been disgraced by this young man's actions. Maxwell is rightfully charged with not one, but three class 3 felonies. Each charge is punishable by 2-5 years in the State penitentiary. No matter what the trials outcome is, this young man will have cost his family THOUSANDS of dollars, deep shame and chronic heartache. Not to mention the terror caused to the victim and his family. This is an all around sad story.

Actually he wont cost his family much at all (financially) He will probably cost you and I HUNDREDS of thousands to "rehabilitate". That's what's sad. It's also sad that it would be illegal for the victim (unless they are offduty or retired police, politicians or other privileged class in Illinois) to have been carrying a gun and blown this guy away thus savuing the taxpayers a ton of cash. Sad.

Teh prison system is not full of people like me brother. Cultural rot in this country has resulted in a lack of respect for human life that allows people to think of doing things like this. He's not a kid anymore, and he may not have been bad before, but crossing this line (unless he was justifiably provoked or defending himself), one could argue that he's certainly heading down the road of being a bad person now. Like i said before, It's sad. Nobody wins in that situation.

"I know this kid." (He's 21, an adult. Most definitely not a kid, John.) "He isn't a bad person". He STABBED someone, John. What would your definition of a bad person be? I have known people in the past that I would have sworn were not bad people, until their true character came to light. Just because a person is familiar to us doesn't mean that anything they do is excusable. Granted, the facts of the case have not come to light yet, and it may turn out that his actions were justified. I honestly hope that your faith in him is deserved, and that he won't let you down.

I think the real victim is the kid who had to pull a knife because he got ganged up on. You shouldn't talk unless you know the person/persons involved. I believe in your freedom of speech but unless you personally know someone involved the you should shut the fuck up. Max is not at all the kind of person that would do this maliciously, so then again unless you know max personally you should shut your mouth. Self defense is a right, am I correct?

Freemax- I must admit, this young man certainly has a lot of character references going for him. As I said before, I certainly hope your faith in him is well placed, and if he is in fact innocent, I wish him the best. However, swearing at Those of us who are just voicing opinions based on the information we have been provided is not constructive. Remember, we don't know Max like you do.

To all that have sent support and open minds, I commend you. This is America, and there is always much more to the story. I have known this young man his entire life, and he is a stand up person. Those that immediately attack simply do not know the facts that will be coming out very soon, and I hope for them that they learn that things are not always what how they appear and this could easily have happened to anyone of them or their family or friends. It is hard not to be angry at some of these posts, but simply rely on what you know of Maxwell and be assured that there will be justice for those who were not the aggressors in this situation. Send prayers to Maxwell and to the family and friends supporting him. Your hearts are very much in the right place.

Fortunately, no one here is either judge or jury. There a very few facts released. At this time, there are many more questions than answers.... Why was he carrying a knife? Why was it so easily accessible, if he was able to draw it in a spontaneous moment? Was it his knife? What was the passenger doing while the stabbing took place? If it was self defense, why didn't his mugshot show any facial bruises or cuts? If it was indeed self defense, then why did he and his friend flee the crime scene? Why did police have to release McDonald's surveillance video footage to the public to identify him? It's rare that an "innocent victim" runs and hides from the law... Why didn't he or his friend call 911? As I said, there are more question than answers. Now, it's up to the state's attorneys office, and his defense lawyer to present the best facts in the case, and let the judicial system call a verdict. I hope he's innocent, for his sake and his saddened family.

First of all, if you don't like the fact that people are voicing opinions on a public forum, then just stay off of Patch. Secondly, punctuation, grammar, and vocabulary are great ways to make your argument sound reasonable. Why not invest in a grade school education, and then contribute to the conversation? Until then, you are not doing Max any favors by sounding ignorant.

One question, right, wrong, good or bad...why was Max carrying a knife? I have a 26 yr old son that hunts and owns several guns. He shoots at a range, he field dresses his kills but he doesn't carry any weapons around with him, except perhaps a Swiss army knife in his glove compartment, that has a 3" blade at best.

Yes, some people carry pocket knives. That said, how many of those who do, use them to stab another human being in the abdomen, twice? If he was "ganged up on", where are his abrasions and bruises? Why didn't he (they) run inside for help? Why did he run and hide? Why did the police have to publish surveillance footage to find him? If he was a victim... Why did he act like a guilty criminal? Like I said before, I am really hoping, for him and his family's sake, that he is innocent- but not going for help, fleeing the crime scene, and not reporting the incident, doesn't bode well for his defense.

DaddyO, you seem to have some emotional attachment to just about every story reported on the Patch, as well as all the answers. You have no idea what you are talking about and should probably let the judicial system figure this out. I do not believe that you have any idea what Maxwell did or did not do, or how this was handled. Please move on to your next article to condemn and preach. Perhaps you should find a professional to speak with about your seemingly endless anger regarding just about everything. I am sorry that your view of the world is so skewed.

@daddyO reading up on your first few comments...no that wasn't his mother. even if it was that was very disrespectful to say they failed with max. he's grown and knows right from wrong so his parents have nothing to do with it. with thay being said knowing right from wrong if you knew anything about max you would know that there would obviously be more to this story. of course it is not out there yet as to what ACTUALLY happen opposed to what is being published because there is no proof of anything its all he said she said. 2 peoples voice against maxs alone is obviously going to power over anything max has to say up until it is discussed with the judge. so before u go and say anything ..shut up until you know the facts. max is humorus kind gental person, perfectly fine mentally, in the national guard and a very smart guy.
