Patch Flash: Joe Walsh Endorses Tammy Duckworth

Chicagoland news to talk about: Chicago Bulls are leaving Deerfield.

A press release from the office of Democrat Tammy Duckworth, who is running against Republican Joe Walsh for his current Congressional seat in Illinois' 8th District, made a surprising announcement Tuesday: Duckworth had secured an endorsement from... Joe Walsh?

The "real" Joe Walsh, as he refers to himself in his statement of support for Duckworth's campaign, is the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer and six-time Grammy award winning musician who plays guitar for the Eagles.

"I'm the real Joe Walsh and I'm proud to back a real American success story - Tammy Duckworth,” said Walsh in a release issued by Duckworth's campaign. “Tammy's story, her service to our nation and her continued commitment to working families (like the one I come from!) have convinced me that she's the right choice for Congress."

The Chicago Bulls committed today to leaving Deerfield’s Sheri L. Berto Center for a practice facility in Chicago, according to a release from the team. The Berto Center has been home to Bulls’ practices since 1992 and for many years before that at the Multiplex, now the Sachs Recreation Center. The coaching staff has its offices there as well. The Berto Center will be sold. Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel has been pitching Bulls Chairman Jerry Reinsdorf to move the practice facility to a downtown Chicago location. Reinsdorf now thinks the time is right for the Bulls to make the move.

For years, the residents of Fort Sheridan have wondered whether or not the Army would choose to enforce the deed restriction that required a golf course to be built at Fort Sheridan Forest Preserve. It seems they finally have their answer. In a letter from the Army to Highwood mayor Charlie Pecaro that was released June 5, the Army indicated the county no longer needs to worry about losing its land if it doesn't use it for golf.

It feels like a scene from a Hitchcock movie, but the startling attacks by red-winged blackbirds on walkers, joggers and bikers are just part of birds' normal mating cycle. The blackbirds have been dive-bombing people in a Northbrook parking lot. Northbrook Animal Control Officer Gina Manski says the birds are protecting their nests.

This is the just another smoke-and-mirrors stunt, designed and delivered to conceal a total lack of competence to represent constituents in Congress. Ms. Duckworth deserves a lot of credit for her military service, but clearly is not serious enough about the race to do anything more than dodge the issues and perform stunts. Voters really deserve something ... and someone better.

Tammy Duckworth also served in the Veteran Affair Department. She doeshave a plan. Andit is not causing grid-lock in Congress. She is professional and personable in dealing with her soon to be constituents unlike JOe, the tea party abusive mouth, Walsh.

Yes, primarily because Rep. Walsh is not a lap dog for the administration while Tammy has said she wants to be elected to help him fulfill his agenda. She has the wrong constituency for that.
Walsh has been a Radical Centrist related to government, finding as many on the extreme right as on the left (both of which I find irritating). He has railed against irresponsible government. He has certainly been more responsible and responsive than his predecessor. Someone needs to speak loudly & clearly. The fact that he has raised the ire of the fringes says he has done his job well.
No, I am not a campaign lacky (never contributed to any). And Walsh was redistricted away from being my representative.

Seems to me he has just raised the ire of everyone. He has a tendency to lose his rather short temper and scream at his own constituents. He has made a hot mess of his personal life. Luckily, the bozo has been redistricted away from me too, but if his new potential constituents want someone who can't handle his own affairs representing their affairs in Congress, more power to em. Just hope they never have a disagreement with him, he gets nasty.

Are you high? Walsh is a puppet head for the T-baggers. His only positions are what they tell him. He's a loser 10x over who got lucky beating a very qualified but overconfident incumbent. He's an accidental congressman who can't pay his own bills, but feels obligated to claim 'fiscal responsibility'. A failure as a businessman, homeowner, spouse, parent, and now congressman.

How quickly we all forget how unavailable Melissa Bean made herself to her constituents, and now people want to support Duckworth, who yet again is running a campaign full of gimmicks instead of showing she is aware of the issues.

Skip's point is right on.

While serving in the military, as members in my family have, is commendable, that's about all Duckworth brings to the table. It will pain me to vote for Walsh again given some of what I have learned about him, but I have zero doubt a vote for Duckworth would be far worse, and a setback.

Furthermore, it should show you voters just how much your representatives respect your opinions since they re-districted everything in an effort to circumvent the way the majority voted.

If anything, people should vote for Walsh this time again just to show Illinois' officials they can't bend the rules and redistrict just because they disapprove of how you vote.

But I have zero doubt that Duckworth does not represent the majority of people in this district with her views, many of which no one is even aware of what they are to begin with. I am expecting more anger-filled ads from her before November like she unsuccessfully ran in the last election when she lost, rather than focusing on issues.

My two cents.

Tammy Duckworth has much more experience, not to mention brains and than Radical Rightwinger Walsh....Duckworth is a disabled veteran who has helped find jobs for thousands of United States Veterans.

What, besides dodging child support, throwing temper tantrums, and pledging allegiance to Grover Norquist, has Walsh ever done?

Walsh /Duckworth Story, nother is another one of your poor liberal presentation on reporting a story. Duckworth like obama in all her years in state and federal positions did nothing of note. US Rep. Joe Walsh made a differance immediatly upon arriving in Washington, also if anyone took the time they would have found that Rep Walsh is not a "deadbeat " dad but was the victim.

Ahh yes, the old "white guy divorcee reverse discrimination" trope. It must be hard to live in your word Max, everyone out to get you... It's truly astonishing that any media outlet that reports the truth about extremist blow-hard t-bag politicians like diamond Joe Walsh is immediately labeled 'liberal'. You would attack Wikipedia as liberal if it fit your narrow views. Maybe if you shut off FOX news every once in a while you'd realize that your chosen media outlet is the one with the bias, and the other 99% of media outlets are trying to get it right . And with a little objectivity perhaps by tempering your dogmatic right-wing ideology, you might actually see that Joe Walsh is barely qualified to take your order at McDonalds.

Not defending Walsh, but tell me, Kathy...was his wife forced to sign those papers? Last I checked, she did so of her own free will. No one made her agree to anything.

I voted for Bean twice in a row, then Walsh.

Not a huge Walsh fan, but Duckworth would be an even bigger mess. At least Walsh can contribute his own ideas that represent what the voters from his district have asked for.

Or have we forgotten that our representatives are supposed to work for us and not just use their ideas?

Max...I took the time...Walsh never denied he owed back support...only disputed the amount. So a quick question....how much back child support is it OK for a US Congressman to owe?

Since he entered into a child support agreement with his ex-wife, never went back to court to revise the terms when he was broke and failed to make timely payments....how is he the VICTIM...He IS a deadbeat dad....or should I say was, since he has now finally resolved the issue with his ex and is having the payments taken out of his gov't paycheck. Wonder how regular they payments will be when he's out of office again next year.

Glad I'm not in the new 10th as I am no fan Tammy Duckworth either, but Joe Walsh is an embarassing joke who has accomplished nothing except to get his dumb mug on TV a lot...usually doing something ridiculous.

Interesting that rocker Joe Walsh's agent is a direct relative of Rahm Emmanuel. Could she be more tied to the Obama administration? At least Congressman Joe Walsh is standing up for his principles. We need representation to stand up and stop the madness. Unfortunately there has to be some conflict in order to turn a bad thing around, and the way things were going in years 1 and 2 of the Obama administration, we were definitely experiencing just that.

Here's another proof point that this is all a political stunt. Ariel Emanuel is singer Joe Walsh's agent. Ariel Emanuel is Rahm Emanuel's brother, and of course, a prime reason Rahm is back in Illinois is to campaign for the President. This is nothing more than a stunt to distract constituents from the REAL issues. No kidding ... we really deserve something ... and someone better than a performer of cheap, political parlor tricks,

What Kathy calls gridlock is what some others might call stopping the government from rubber stamping everything, and if you consider that "gridlock," then I am all for it.

Heaven forbid we actually have someone in office that wants to stop wasteful spending as Walsh has attempted to do.

I also think that those who allowed this headline to be used should be ashamed, with all due respect. Duckworth's campaign clearly tried to gimmick the media, and you guys/gals fell for it, as evidenced by this extremely poor choice for a headline.

It also shows a clear sort of bias that you allowed it to be used to begin with, Patch.

Still waiting for one person to share what Duckworth's ideas are to improve this district, and I sincerely doubt we'll see any. Last election all she did was run angry misleading ads, and lost. And I don't recall her discussing hardly any issues, nor has she this time.

Instead, we get her offices saying, 'hey, we've got a great idea! Let's tey and be cute and clever and get an endorsement from Joe Walsh, the musician, and send out a press release that makes it look like my opponent supports ME.'

Imagine the kind of gimmicks she'd try to use if elected. How mature to send out a press release like this to begin with. Yeah, she's ready for congress. Sigh.

And clearly, Tom, you have not managed to master simple english usage, spelling, and grammar. That said, your ability to communicate is still light years ahead of "diamond" Joe Walsh. The guy is a failure, an accidental candidate who won election in a conservative district by 20 votes. He took his 20 vote "mandate" and used that to be a shill for the t-bag party. He has no new or unique ideas that I have seen. In fact, based on early interviews after the election, he has no clue either. He's a blow-hard who thinks yelling things loudly makes him a good politician. The reality is he's a joke and I'm happy to no longer have him representing Barrington. I'm tired of t-bag kamikaze politicians who have no interest in the common good, only their own narrow idealogical good. They are willing to destroy the republic to prove useless points.

What I find interesting is that some posters think Congressman Walsh has actually done something in Washington. As a resident in his present district and one who has contacted him multiple times my view is he has done little to nothing for District 8 or the county. Congressman Walsh has been politicing since the day he was sworn in and hasn't tended to the business of his District or country. I'm so glad to see him go so maybe my District will have some representation regardless of who it is.

I love how Dr. Joe calls the votes for the Republican candidate in the last election an "accidental candidate," as if those votes somehow shouldn't have counted. Last I checked it was an election run fair and square, which Melissa bean lost, mostly through her own fault and arrogance toward her constituents.

And Resident 225, don't act like Walsh hasn't been available to your many attempts to get through to him. He only holds meetings in person locally seemingly every week.

Funny how the last two posts are all name-calling and insults. Seems to be the only way many (but not all) people supporting Duckworth know how to operate. It's exactly how Duckworth's campaign went last time she ran for office and handily lost.

Like I said, this is all nothing more than a feeble attempt by the Democrats in Illinois to slap the voters in the face. They didn't like that a Republican took over a Democrat's seat in Washington, so they re-drew the district map and basically told you, the voter, that they don't have any respect for your vote or opinion REGARDLESS of whether you are a Republican or Democrat. Worse yet, they apparently felt the best candidate they could offer was Duckworth.

A vote for Duckworth, even on sheer principle, is a vote supporting the corrupt individuals in this state who think your opinion doesn't matter, so they change the rules.

Sorry, but it's the truth.

Tim - I didn't say Congressman Walsh didn't respond to me. He did. The first time was very timely but once the new map was drawn the response time grew and I no longer received notice of his town hall meetings. He was too busy running for office again. He ran in District 14 for quite a while and now in the new District 8. He likes to tout how he's always in the District but that equates to getting nothing done but talk. Also, I didn't name call or insult anyone in my post. I just stated what I have experienced as a resident of the current Dist 8 and I don't see any movement on the things most troublesome to Lake County residents from Mr. Walsh namely transportation and jobs. I'm not looking for Mr. Walsh to solve the problems but I'd like to see that he's at least working on some solutions but there's been nothing, zilch, zero. That's my issue with Walsh. So when you want to slam a fellow poster at least get it right. In my case you did not.

Sounds like Dr. Joe is upset because people finally stood up to the politics and business as usual in Washington. If you are so worried about people destorying the Republic, Joe, write your legislators and ask them why the president granted immunity to illegal immigrants today without a vote.

If congress and the senate want to do that LEGALLY, I'm all for it. But he used an executive order, circumventing existing laws and our own Constitution today with his actions. If you are so worried about the Republic, as you say, I'd be far more concerned with his employing dictator-like tactics like he did today than Joe Walsh blocking your constituents because he wants to reign in federal spending ... and then you act like that's a bad thing? Give me a break.

Maybe next time people should share a link that actually works.

I went to the website. Her plan to create more jobs is....wait for it...

WIden roads and create more means of transportation.

Sorry, but in what world does road repair create more jobs that don't exist?

So many of the ideas on her page are awful, and show her severe lack of experience in any business-related setting. She then goes on to say how she wants to actually cut existing jobs for those in the Pentagon and other military branches....

Way to stick up for your former military colleagues, Tammy!

Then, she wants to increase taxes on people who run larger businesses, as if that will also create more jobs.

I could go on and on about just how much money she wants to spend of ours that doesn't exist, too, in her plan, but I won't waste my time.

People aren't dumb. They can go to the site themselves and see just how short-sighted her "plans" are.

And I just did address the "plan" Kathy. Didn't know there was a rule that said I am not allowed to make relevant posts as side notes. It was a valid point because we have a congressman in Walsh that has challenged Obama and his colleagues to come up with a legal immigration plan that doesn't use illegal means like executive orders that usurp the consitution, so it is completely in context to the Walsh/Duckworth discussion.

While Joe (of the Eagles) Walsh may be a FOMR (friend of Mayor Rahm), he is also from Evanston, and has more of a brain than most of the posters above. btw tim: Construction workers build roads and bridges. If you build roads and bridges, you have to hire (employ) those people to build them. They call that thing people do to build roads and bridges a JOB
I'm glad I didn't have the displeasure of being represented by Joe Walsh (the jerk who probably can't sing or write music either), but I will still cast my vote for someone who will work together with colleagues to solve problems, not someone who lives for the provocative sound bite and some extreme idiology which doesn't involve compromise. Government shouldn't be about extremism. Extreme views should only serve as a reality check for those of us in the broad middle who actually want government to work for us, and not the other way around.

I'd be awfully careful about whose ideas you call extreme ideaology with some of the off-the-wall ideas your party has been throwing around lately D'skidoc. And this is coming from someone who doesn't identify with one specific party.

Extremism? Perhaps you haven't noticed the histories of some of the people currently appointed by our president, either. Many of those people and their radical ideads are the definition of extremism in some of it's worst forms imaginable, and are appointed to very important leadership and even cabinet positions.

Also, repairing roads may keep a few jobs, but far too often I've seen roads being repaired that didn't need to around here to begin with, or five or six people standing around making a lot of money doing nothing but sitting in the shade, smoking on the job, or doing a lot fo watching. No offense to those who actually work hard intended.

And regardless, repairing roads isn't creating new jobs, it's keeping existing ones going...and if that's the basis of her economic plan, it's a terrible one. She doesn't have much of a plan, clearly.

Why should people compromise with those who want to raise taxes on larger business owners, or those who want to spend more of our money frivilously?

It's funny...I make replies with accrate factual information, and time after time, it's nothing but angry insults and mean personal quips in response on here. It's extremely revealing about those supporting this woman.

Maybe if Tammy Duckworth's name was "Tom" Duckworth she might have had your support, because their stances on the issues are virtually identical.
