Niko's Lodge Leases Former Barley House Building
This will be the Wasco-based restaurant's second location.
It's not even been three months since Barley House closed its doors in June, and another restaurant already has snapped up the property.
Niko’s Lodge, a Wasco-based restaurant, has leased the 8,824-square-foot space formerly occupied by Barley House, 1520 S. Randall Road.
Inland Real Estate, the company that owns and manages Algonquin Commons, announced Wednesday, Sept. 7, that Niko’s Lodge, a wilderness-themed steak and seafood restaurant, will open in late October. This will be the restaurant’s second location.
“One of the many great things about Algonquin Commons is the restaurant variety,” said Scott Carr, president of property management for IRC in a statement. “Niko’s Lodge will provide Algonquin Commons guests with yet another great dining choice.”
Niko Kanakaris, a Huntley villlage trustee and Jacobs High School graduate, owns Niko's Lodge in Wasco and multiple restaurants in the area, including the Thirsty Whale and Niko's Grill and Pub in Huntley.

Let's hope he runs it better than the he runs the concessions/food service at Pinecrest Golf Club.

Ate at the new Niko's and it was awful. Drink order was wrong. Rushed us to order. Had to ask for butter for bread, sour cream for potato, salt and pepper for table, and knife after they took bread plates before entrees arrived. Entrees obviously sat under heat lamp as plates were scorching hot, potato and beans dried out. The BBQ chix was flavorless. I've never had "bad chicken skin" before, but it was slimy and I almost choked on it. They are new and have a long way to go to get it right, but we will not be back to see if they get there.
