McHenry County Sheriff Investigating Barn Fires

Six reported in rural McHenry County since May.

 

 

McHenry County Sheriff’s deputies are investigating multiple hay barn fires that have been occurring in rural McHenry County since May.

The sheriff’s office is trying to determine the origin of six fires and is looking into possible criminal activity involving the fires, according to a release.

Barn fires have been reported in rural Woodstock, Marengo and Harvard, deputies said. Kane County and Boone County authorities have also reported fires within their borders, the release stated.

So far, the investigation has found one fire is suspicious, authorities said. McHenry County sheriff’s deputies are working with local police and fire departments and the state fire marshal.

Sheriff's deptuies are investigating the following fires:

  • 1100 Block of N Queen Anne Road, Woodstock. (May 29)
  • 11100 Block of Payne Road, Marengo. (June 5)
  • 18400 Block of Lincoln Road, Harvard. (June 28)
  • 13900 Block of Harmony Road, Marengo. (June 29)
  • 13911 Block of Pleasant Valley Road, Woodstock. (July 10)
  • 22500 Block of River Road, Marengo. (July 23)

The Sheriff’s Office wants to make sure that the rural farming community is aware of this information. Any suspicious activity should be reported to the sheriff’s office.

Anyone with information about the fires is encouraged to contact either the McHenry County Crime Stoppers Tip Line at 1-800-762-STOP (7867) or the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Tip Line at 815-338-2144. The tip line email address is TipLine@co.mchenry.il.us.

Callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward up to $1,000 for information leading to the arrest and prosecution of the offender(s). Crimestoppers does not use caller ID.
