MCC Spring Sports Roundup
The Scots' baseball team is still red hot.
As the midpoint of the spring season approaches, here is a look at how McHenry County College’s spring sports are doing:
Baseball: The Scots have been on a hot streak in recent weeks, winning 18 of their last 21 heading into this past weekend.
MCC is being led by Justin Henderson, who is hitting .404 on the season while sharing the team lead in home runs with Matt Schmidt with four. Schmidt is leading the team in RBIs with 32 heading into the weekend.
The team overall is hitting .365 in boasting a 23-10 record and 7-3 record in the Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference.
On the pitching side, Chase Blazier and Jeremy Ahillen each had five wins to lead the Scots in that department heading into this past weekend.
Men’s Tennis: The Scots have been hovering around .500 all season long but got an individual honor this month when Matt Miller was named the ISCC player of the week.
MCC (5-4, 2-2) will face Elgin Community College on Tuesday in ISCC play. All four of MCC’s losses this season have come by 5-4 margins. Miller is 9-0 at No. 1 singles and the Scots’ No. 1 singles player has not lost a dual match in three years.
The Scots have another week of ISCC play before the Region IV Tournament on April 26-27.
Softball: MCC sits at 9-16-1 on the season after splitting a doubleheader on Friday against Moraine Valley Community College.
The Scots started hot in ISCC play, winning their first four games before losing four of their last six games.
MCC scored 28 runs during the doubleheader on Friday while having a roster of six freshmen still learning the college game.
