LITH Police Commission to Decide Whether to Discharge Injured Officer

James Wales, Lake in the Hills Police Department director of police and public safety, filed a complaint last month to discharge injured officer Craig James.

The Lake in the Hills Police Commission will decide whether to discharge a Lake in the Hills Police Department officer with a pending workers' compensation claim during a meeting later this month, the Daily Herald reported.

The officer, Craig James, suffered an on-the-job injury in December 2009 when his vehicle was rear-ended at a traffic stop, the newspaper reported. James had been with the police department for 13 years at the time of the incident.

James worked for a bit after the crash until his injuries made it too difficult to continue in his position. He used sick, vacation and comp time to remain on the payroll with a salary of $81,675 thorugh March 2011, according to the Daily Herald. After that, he was granted a one-year leave without pay.

The Lake in the Hills Police Commission is expected to hear the complaint during a May 29 meeting at 7 p.m. at the Lake in the Hills Police Department, 1115 Crystal Lake Road.

No wonder why taxes are outrageous here. They drive SUV squads now and get fat paychecks and pensions. Why on earth do you need a gas guzzling SUV to patrol a neighborhood with low crime, especially in this economy. This is absurd.
