Husband, Wife Duo with a Flair for Sweets Open Wicked Chocolates
Wicked Chocolates opened in September at 2140 Lake Cook Road in Algonquin.
When a pastry chef and hobbyist chocolate maker join forces to open a business, the results can be nothing short of wickedly sweet.
And now, the east side of Algonquin gets to reap the benefits. Brian Green, the pastry chef, and his wife, Cyndi Green, the hobbyist chocolate maker, opened Wicked Chocolates in September.
The chocolate shop at 2140 Lake Cook Road in Algonquin doubles as a cafe, offering a variety of loose tea and coffee as well as “high tea combinations.”
The high tea combos let visitors couple tea or coffee with two mini sandwiches. Or a fruit kabob and a pastry. Or a chocolate selection and two pastry selections. (Here is Wicked Chocolates full menu).
“Business from the local neighborhoods has been good. They are hungry for new businesses on the east side,” Brian Green said. “Retention is at about 70 percent. Someone will come in and then has come back two to three times.”
Cyndi Green continues to work full time in engineering services, which means a lot of the couple’s “free time” has been spent making chocolates.
“We will be making chocolate tonight,” Brian Green said Friday morning.
Brian and Cyndi were enjoying a peanut butter cup in their kitchen when Brian started throwing around ideas for new chocolates, according to Wicked’s website. Soon, the chocolate also started to fly and wine-infused chocolates, strawberry cheesecake in dark chocolate and tea compilation chocolates emerged.
“(Wicked Chocolates) is the unity of two individuals that have a passion for chocolate and a flair for design,” according to the Wicked website.
With over 35 years experience as a pastry chef, Brian also has experience owning a business. He owned a bakery 19 years ago in Park Ridge.
And he brings to Wicked many new and delicious pastries, such as chocolate eclair, moon pie, almond macaroon, pecan praline cup and more.
Wicked will offer seasonal chocolates, pastires and pies.
On Friday, Brian Green said they had just got done making a new chocolate: pumpkin maple pecan. He will soon be making pumpkin moose pies and cream puffs that are shaped like a turkey for Thanksgiving. Wicked also offers seasonal pumpkin cup and chocolate moose pastries.
There will be pre-packaged assortments available for gifts and the business will be taking orders for pies and other items for the upcoming holidays, Brian Green said.
