When did Algonquin become a constitution-free zone like airports and the US border near Mexico?

No they aren't. They are revenue cash cows for local municipalities. What does this do for local restaurants who are struggling in this economy? How many people will read about this somewhere, or hear about this, and say "well, we were going to go out tonite for dinner and have a couple of drinks, but it's not worth the risk if the cops are pulling every other car over for 'safety checks'."

Algonquin wants to develop the downtown area and make it a lively place for adults to frequent. This is not the way to give responsible adults the confidence to go there and spend their hard earned money for an evening of relaxation and libations.

I hate to leave a comment, I don't want to look like I agree with the other two. I had a father and two brother that abused alcohol! One brother died at 55 because his body could not take it anymore, this after being sober for ten years. The other brother died at 28 in an accident that was alcohol related. Read the police reports sometime, one of those suckers that gets nailed could have killed you. Don't talk Constitution without CAPITAL C! This is not about airports and the USA Border with an illegal country that does not even try to stop it's people from leaving, it is part of their GNP to have their people come here and work without paying taxes and sending a large portion home.. That is a different issue than drunk drivers, although being so far from home that is what they do day after day ~~~ drink and party in public.

It is NOT about revenue! It is about saving lives and preventing death. Libations = stoned out of your mind to some.

That's fine Dennis, but however you look at it the law is supposed to protect people. Police are not supposed to stop nor harass law-abiding citizens. Until very recently the law of the land says that you can only be stopped and questioned if you have done something wrong. Most people do not abuse drugs and are more in danger of losing basic liberties than being stoned out of their mind. Of course it is very sad and unnecessary for casualties due to drunk-driving. If you know someone who has a problem, it is your responsibility to stop them from driving drunk and get them the help they need. If we took responsibility for ourselves, and those close to us, police would have a lot less work to do and we would all be the better for it.

I feel these safety checks are harrassment! The police should be doing there job out on the roadway. Stopping everyone? There are so many people every day day that cannot drive well and noone stops them. Protect the people. Not fishing. Do your job!
