Black Friday begins at 8 a.m. Thanksgiving Thursday for north and northwest suburban Chicago shoppers and Patch wants to know your plan.
Will you head to Toys R Us or Walmart at 8 p.m. Thursday before or after the Thanksgiving dishes are done? Target opens an hour later and will have more than 24 hours of continuous shopping. How will you take advantage of the deals at both places?
How will you be planning to navigate from Toys R Us or Walmart to Macy’s at midnight and not be too far behind the line for the best of the bargains?
Does your plan include a partnership? Will you trade lists with a friend and then become a placeholder while someone shops for you? Will you have a thermos of coffee or hot chocolate? Will you have your Thanksgiving dessert while waiting in line to shop?

My plan....To stay home, relax and keep my nerves in check. Never been to a Black Friday, and never will. Good luck to all of those that will participate. If it's their thing...more power to them.

I was dragged to a Black Friday sale once and my advice is, bundle up, bring entertainment and make sure you have a hot thermal so you can keep warm and hydrated.

A couple of years ago, my sister and I stood in line outside of the Coach outlet in Pleasant Prairie for about an hour. It was cold. Don't think I'll ever do that again. This year, though, I plan to go to Hawthorn Mall at midnight. I live only a couple of miles from there, so I figured - why not just stop by? But it's really just out of curiosity ... not because I plan to buy anything.

I just visited that same Coach store and they were already offering the 50% discount on their handbags... so avoid the lines and shop early!

One year I strolled into Best Buy at the crack of 9 (a.m.) and found there were 3 doorbuster laptops left. Someone who came at 4 a.m. had put them on hold but never bought them. So I got one--a nice HP model, at the doorbuster price.

One thing I intend to NOT do is walk into a wall Mart. I support those employees for trying to just gain a little bit of a leg up who will be picketing to hold the line as Sam Walton tells employees more of their minimum wage must be spent for their sub standard health care plan. I might spend a little more somewhere else, but I'll sleep better, and no one I intend to gift will be affected.

Here's an idea. Let's head up en masse to the corner of Rollins Rd. and Rt. 83 in Round Lake Beach, where you'll find the empty hulk of the Wal-Mart that was built with TIF financing back in about 1990, which the company then deserted a couple of years ago without – you guessed it – ever paying a dime in local taxes. Bring a few rusty 55-gallon drums, some broken plastic lawn chairs, and we'll have a cookout. Just don't buy your burgers at Sam's Club.

Spending time with my kids tomorrow to go shopping for food items to donate. If you're a parent, ask yourself whether you want to set an example of loading up your car with stuff you don't need, or instilling the value of being appreciative of what they have as well as empowering them to help others.
