Extreme Heat Causes Roads to Buckle
Algonquin Road west of Route 25/Elgin Road buckled Thursday, according to the Daily Herald.
The heat is having an adverse effect on a lot of things — including the roads.
Algonquin Road west of Elgin Road/Route 25 buckled Thursday, according to the Chicago Tribune. Buckles have closed roads and caused lane closures throughout the Chicago area in recent days.
The buckles in the roadways in the suburbs are not typically severe enough to cause hazourdous conditions and are repaired within hours, according to the Daily Herald. The Illinois Department of Transportation told the Daily Herald more roads are expected to buckle as the heat continues.
The buckles are typically caused by moisture that gets into a crack in a roadway and then causes the road to expand under intense heat, IDOT told the Chicago Tribune.
Wisconsin is facing similar issues. A YouTube video of a sports utility vehicle jumping a buckle in Chippewa County in Wisconsin has gone viral in recent days.

There was also a buckle on east bound Rt 72 at Rock Rd across from the Citgo station. There were barricades last night forcing all traffic through the left turn lane.
