Chesak/Martin PTA to Celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week

Teacher Appreciation Week is May 7 through 11.

Chesak/Martin PTA (CMPTA) in Lake in the Hills is joining thousands of communities across the country in celebrating Teacher Appreciation Week this May 7–11.

In addition to honoring the dedicated teachers who lend their passion and skills to educating children, the CMPTA’s events call attention to the outstanding contributions of all school staff members including administrative staff, special support services, custodial and lunchroom staff.

“These professionals deserve recognition for their countless hours dedicated to the success of our students,” said Niki Burkey, CMPTA Staff Appreciation Chair.  “Everyone knows of exceptional staff members, and we should recognize that there is an enormous amount of quality work being done in the schools.”  The CMPTA Staff Appreciation Committee has been working on preparations since early March.  “We are lucky to have a core group of volunteers committed to celebrating our staff.”

Some of the activities planned to honor staff members include: a breakfast buffet co-sponsored by the Huntley Education Association, an ice cream social sponsored by the generous donation of frozen custard by Huntley’s Culvers, and a Salty Snack and Sweets Buffet Table provided entirely by donations from Chesak, Martin and District 158 Preschool families.

Throughout the week-long celebration, staff members will also be treated to special themed decorations, mailbox stuffer surprises, and raffle prizes contributed by area merchants.

The National PTA expanded on Eleanor Roosevelt’s idea of National Teacher Day, established in 1953, and dedicated a whole week to celebrate the accomplishments of educators.
