The fishing boat went under on the Fox River near the 2900 block of North Shorewood Drive in McHenry.

A 21-foot fishing boat capsized on the Fox River in McHenry on Sunday morning, according to the McHenry County Sheriff's Office press release.

Sheriff's Office officials responded at 10:29 a.m. Sunday to the Fox River near the 2900 block of North Shorewood Drive in McHenry where the spoke with Brian Zgonina, the operator of the boat, a Z521 Ranger fishing boat, according to the news release.

Zgonina of Johnsburg was traveling north on the Fox River toward an inlet near North Shorewood Drive when he lost control of his fishing boat, according to the news release.

The boat then capsized and Zgonina and the sole passenger on the boat were able to "escape the boat," according to the news release.

The McHerny Township Fire Protection District responded for treatment of minor injuries but both refused to be transported for further medical attention, according to the news release.

The boat was towed from the scene. The Illinois Department of Natural Resources responded and took over the investigation, according to the press release.
