Area Middle School Runners to Compete at State

Several runners will move on after placing at last weekend's sectional meet in McHenry.

Several area middle school cross-country runners qualified for the upcoming state meet, which will take place in Normal this Saturday.

The runners will move onto the state meet after competing at sectionals on Oct. 8 at McHenry Middle School.

Three area girl's teams will head to state after grabbing the top spots at the meet.

The Algonquin Heineman Middle School team placed first at the meet with the Marlowe Middle School girl's team following with a second place finish. Cary Junior High School girl's cross-country team placed third.

Algonquin Heineman's Amanda Andrews, an 8th grader, won the girl's two-mile race with a finishing time of 12:20.

While none of the area boy's team placed in the top three at sectionals, a handful of runners will compete at state this weekend after qualifying individually. Keagen Smith, an 8th grade student at Marlowe Middle School, placed first at sectionals with a time of 10:54.
