Algonquin Hair Studio Offers Discount for Food Pantry Donations
Salon owner Janet Rabig is looking to bring in donations for the Algonquin/Lake in the Hills Interfaith Food Pantry.
Scissor Happy Hair Studio in Algonquin will offer a $5 discount on services for anyone who brings in a donation for the Algonquin/Lake in the Hills Interfaith Food Pantry in November.
Janet Rabig, owner of Scissor Happy Hair Studio, said she is hoping to help the food pantry, which serves around 300 local families each month, this holiday season, according to a press release.
The Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Interfaith Food Pantry has a list of its immediate donation needs on its website.
This is not the first time Rabig has used her hair-styling talents to help give back to the community.
After opening Scissor Happy in 2011, Rabig offered free haircuts to those looking for a job to help them "look great for job interviews," according to the press release.
In October, as part of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Rabig participated in SexyHair's nationwide cut-a-thon donating $10 from every hair cut to Look Good...Feel Better, which is a non-profit organization that helps 50,000 women who are undergoing cancer cope with "appearance-related side effects," according to the press release. She also donated her tips to help reach her $500 goal for the month.
“I felt like I was given the opportunity to do hair so that I could reach out to people,” said Rabig. “Every day I have clients sit in my chair and I listen to their stories. Everyone needs something. On the most basic level, I can help people feel and look beautiful. In return, my clients give me so much, from inspiration to helping me put food on the table for my family. Now that I’m on my own with my own shop, I can really give back the way that I want to.”
Scissor Happy Studio is located at 2316 Esplanade Drive, Suite 107, just south of Algonquin Commons in the In Style Suites Complex. The studio is open for appointments and donations Tuesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
