A Table for Two at the Colonial Café

Annie and her daughter, Piper, treat themselves to a girls' night out.

My dining experience this week is a little different than most weeks.

I woke up this morning feeling like I was missing something.

I made sure I had my phone and I counted my kids and that was when I realized, I had not had the chance to eat out over the weekend. Between eating pizza with friends while watching the Blackhawks games and visiting friends out of town, the entire weekend got away from me and I did not go to a restaurant in Algonquin.

I treated my youngest child, Piper, to lunch–her choice. She chose located at 2555 West Bunker Hill Drive, just off of Randall Road in front of Jacobs High School and the Holiday Inn.

After Piper and I were seated, we were greeted by one of the best servers I have ever encountered. She was fantastic.  She was training someone new, and she not only explained what she was doing at each table to her trainee in a kind manner, but she was exceptional with her customers.

I ordered a strawberry lemonade and a California Turkey Grill sandwich.  Piper ordered a regular lemonade and a hot dog off the kids meal. Both meals came with fries. While we waited for our meals, Piper colored and did the puzzles in the kids menu and I took advantage of the free Wi-Fi at Colonial Café.

My sandwich was really good. The filling was a light turkey salad made with an abundance of turkey, cranberries and almonds and not a lot of mayonnaise and onion and celery. I ordered my sandwich without the cheddar jack cheese it was supposed to have on it.

Pipers’ hot dog was just that–a hot dog. She ate part of it with the bun and after the bun fell apart, as most buns do, she ate it plain, without the bun. The fries were good: crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside.

Colonial Café is known for its great ice cream, so Piper and I ordered an Oreo Cookie Mouse Sundae. It was really good but really sweet.

Piper and I give Colonial Café 4 out of 5 stars.  The food was tasty, the service was remarkable and the serving size was perfect for lunch.
